NOTICES

Thank you to : All who attended the Boddington Ball and made it a great evening. Proceeds totaled £3000 which was equally divided among village organizations and SNAG.

Everyone who sponsored me for the Great North Run in September. I completed the race in 1 hour 56 minutes. So far I have collected almost £500 for leukaemia and lymphoma research and I hope to reach that total. Robert Baxter

Everyone who supported the Macmillan Coffee Morning which raised an excellent £427.32.

All who supported the Arts and Crafts Fair in October with special thanks to Juliet Babbs who organized the event and to her team of willing helpers. The Fair was a huge success and raised £616.50. That was enough to complete the repayment of the loan used to pay for repairs to the roof and gable end of the Methodist Church. After 14 months of hard fund raising, Church members are grateful for all the help given by friends in the village. David Simmons

Parish Church. Church Cleaning and Flowers. 7 and 14 Nov. – M. Knowles and J&P. Marsh; 21 and 28 Nov. – A. Dore and J. Baxter.

The address for the Boddington website is on age 18 of the book (and at the head of this newsletter!). There is one amendment: Llewellyn, Douglas and Bettie number should be 264633.

Neighbourhood Watch. It is hoped that parishioners will have spotted that the noticeboards on Church Road in UB and by the bus stop in LB are being used to pass on information relevant to the parish which is sent to the Neighbourhood Watch coordinators. Please spread the word as the notices are important for the safety and security of us all. If anyone has a notice, (public interest, not advertising) please contact the Neighbourhood Watch coordinators: Phil Sheppy in LB (261270) and Margaret Thiel in UB (264365).

Boddington WI. The WI nationally is growing fast – last year 118 new WIs were formed in workplaces, colleges and even a prison, with ages ranging from 20 to 80. Our image is of ‘jam and Jerusalem' and, yes, we are very good at jam; however we have also adapted to modern lifestyles. We are computer literate, use facebook and we ‘twitter'. We are a friendly, public-spirited and influential organization, involved in campaigns such as Violence Against Women and climate change. We took part in the Great Milk Debate. At Boddington WI we welcome women of all ages to join us once a month on the second Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the upper room of the Village Hall. Our programme of events include an interesting variety of speakers and local outings. Why not come along to our next meeting on Wednesday, 10 November, to give us a try and hear the speaker from Belflair Chocolates who will talk about the growing, harvesting and manufacturing of real chocolate. To arrange for someone to collect you or for further information, contact Madeline Knowles (260203) or Pauline Galvani (260871).

The Shop now sells honey made just a few miles away in Stockton. Anecdotal evidence suggests local honey is beneficial to hay fever sufferers, perhaps some of you can confirm whether that's true. It is delicious honey in any case and I'm pleased to support a local producer. The Fruit/Veg Box service is in its third month now and I'd like to thank all of you who regularly use the service. Boxes are priced at £11 for a small box (2 – 3 people), £15 for a medium box (3 – 4 people) and a large box is £17. Just introduced is a Mini Box at £5, suitable for one person. Boxes can include fruit and veg or if preferred just fruit or just veg. If you prefer to choose your own, pop into the Shop on a Friday morning to see the array of fresh produce that's come straight from the Wholesale Market just a couple of hours earlier. If you'd like to order a box you can either call into the Shop, telephone me (260245), email me at Boddingtonstores@hotmail.co.uk or send a text to 0771 414 0082. Please order by 5 p.m. on a Thursday at the latest.

Looking ahead to Christmas, I shall be going to the Wholesale Market on 23 rd December so would ask for orders to be in by 20 th December as I will need to pre - order from my suppliers that week. For Christmas you can also order Sausages/Chipolatas, Pork Pies and freshly cut Ham, all supplied by Marriotts. Bread, Baguettes, Pastries and Cheeses can also be ordered. And especially for Christmas I will stock goose fat as requested.

CRIME ALERT - 2nd March 2010

We have now had more than three reports of unmarked white vans, (in the WB area alone) collecting Charity clothes bags from the street, which are clearly marked for specific Charities, these are then being sold on for profit.

Crime number WB34533/09 is the latest report and the purpose of this email, is to raise awareness on the street.

If we can make our force aware of this, we can help "Make a difference" nationally.

A press release has been requested to raise public awareness.
